This test has two parts. You should answer all questions. For Part A, follow the specific word limits provided for each question carefully. Part A: Architectural Concepts and History - Short Answer Questions

Answer each question below. For questions 1-3, write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer, unless otherwise specified. For questions 4-5, follow the specific instructions.

4. Chronology: Arrange the following three Mughal-era structures in the correct chronological order of their construction: Taj Mahal, Qutub Minar, Fatehpur Sikri.
Write your answer as a numbered list (e.g., 1. Structure A, 2. Structure B, 3. Structure C).

5. Identification: Identify the building in the image below. What is its primary function and in which city is it located?

Part B: Academic Writing Task - Developing a Thematic Argument

You should spend about 25-30 minutes on this task.

Imagine you are writing the introductory essay for your university application portfolio. The admissions tutor wants to see how you connect different architectural ideas.

Write a paragraph (approximately 200 words) that proposes a single, unifying theme that connects the following three architectural examples:

  • The Crystal Palace
  • Frank Lloyd Wright's "Organic Architecture"
  • The modern "Green Architecture" movement

Your essay must not simply describe each one. Instead, it must build a coherent argument for your theme, using the specific knowledge from Part A as evidence for your claims. You should aim to use some of the following terms in your explanation to demonstrate your lexical range and precision:
